About the Rubifruit exchange

How It All Began

I would get emails all the time from young ladies asking where they can find more webcomics like mine. I took this to mean that it is rather difficult for young women to find all the awesome webcomics I already know about. Wouldn't it be lovely if great webcomics could promote each other on their sites, thus spreading and commingling their readerships?

Thus I started the Rubifruit banner exchange with a few of my fabulous comicker friends in 2006. Back then it was called "The Subculture Clique". It began as just a few female-owned web comic sites exchanging banners, but now we've grown to include blogs, podcasts, communities, galleries, and boys, among other things. At its heart, though, the Rubifruit Exchange remains a network of sites by/for/about women and girls.

Why You Should Join

Exchanging banners with other sites helps readers who like similar things find you. At the same time, you help promote others by displaying their banners on your site. It's a win-win for readers and site owners.

How it works:

Our exchange ratio is based on clicks: 1 click = 200 impressions. An impression is one displaying of your banner on one page to one visitor. So, if one person clicks on a banner on your site, your site's banner is displayed once on two hundred other participating pages. It is a click-based ratio because we want to encourage participants to put the banners in a visible areas. Plus, it makes it a little more fair for small, low volume sites that have a lot of click-throughs when put up against high-volume sites where people rarely click the banners. Everything evens out, and no one can monopolize the system. It has been optimized for promoting your comic.

It's free and easy to join. Sign up with the Rubifruit Exchange today!
